365: 2 – Cowboy Bebop

1. A picture/meme relating to that fandom in some way.

2. Favourite “good” character.
Everyone on the show, with the exception of Ed and Jet, are pretty morally grey. They’re not bad people, but sometimes they do bad things. The reasons for this varies. Faye Valentine is probably my favourite though. I love Faye. She fits into the tropes of the femme fatale with a hidden heart of gold. Faye is incredibly complicated and layered. Her history is great and how she deals with the world she’s thrown into is harsh and she’s not ready for it. Watching her grow and then commit to the story of who she becomes is incredibly intriguing to watch and watching her fall into the Bebop crew and both hate that they’re the only home she has now and love that they’re the only home she has now.

Ed comes as a close second. I love Ed so much and the story they have. They’re such a pure character in search of who they are and their place in the world, very similarly to Faye. I also love Ed’s mind.

3. Favourite “bad” character.
Hmm, probably Vicious. He’s such an asshole, but he’s so good about it. He’s never really redeemed and his backstory is never used to make him more likable. It shows that he was a complicated man and he thought nobody understood him but his woman (SHAFT!) and his best friend, but the joke was on him. They didn’t understand him either, or more to the point, they understood him too well and knew he’d never forgive them.

4. Favourite book/movie/episode.
I’d say Jupiter Jazz, Part 2. I love Gren and how he adds backstory and depth into Spike’s past, but how the episode itself is centered on him and Faye and how his story affects Faye’s feelings on the crew and Spike himself.

5. On a scale of ZZZ to Haven’t Slept In Weeks ‘Cause Tumblr & FanFiction & Everything, how obsessed are you with this fandom?
I never engaged with this fandom on a grand scale but I’ve written about it, reblogged it, and spent years continuing the story in my head.

6. Favorite Quote. (Optional. Only for the extra-professional fan-person.)
It’s actually  the end card from the last episode. It encapsulates the story and backstories of the characters, but also it just true about life.

You’re gonna carry that weight.
